Boat #117, Norway

To ward off the inevitable flood of emails from angry Norwegians after last Saturday's post in which I denigrated a national hero I've decided to focus on something a little more positive. I don't speak Norwegian but this stamp appears to have something to do with a constitution. Go Norway!

Boat #118, Norway

Let's all send a collective boo and hiss in the direction of Mr. Foyn here. This scoundrel invented an explosive harpoon which, coupled with the new practice of whale hunting from steamships (the 19th century version of Sarah Palin's favorite hobby, helicopter wolf hunting), worked almost instantly to deplete global whale populations. Dumb jerk.

Boat #359, Norway

Bob Stead of Dearborn, Michigan was the winner of Friday's trivia question (the answer was the Black Sea). So Bob won the right to choose today's destination. He chose Norway, our first first stop in Scandinavia. I had quite a few options here, but I settled with this one, a close up action shot. Just makes you want to shout something maritimey, eh?
